A video posted by a member of the public has raised concerns about public safety when vehicles park on footpaths and block access for pedestrians in Apia bringing to light the need for strict enforcement of road regulations.
The video, posted Wednesday, showed several vehicles parked on the footpath in front of the Central Bank of Samoa (CBS), leaving pedestrians with limited space to walk.
The video has also prompted questions about whether drivers are aware of the parking restrictions and whether more action is needed to keep footpaths clear, when the video was shared on social media, Facebook, some members of the community commented "the police should ticket them, while most them said "they shouldn't be parked there."
The complaint has raised concerns about pedestrian safety, particularly when people are forced to walk along the road to get around vehicles blocking the footpath.
According to the Samoa National Road Code booklet, drivers must not stop, stand or park their vehicles, whether attended or unattended, on a footpath.
