The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has called on mobile phone users to finish mandatory SIM identity verification and update their information by Aug 30 as it seeks to combat mule accounts and technology crime.Mobile operators and users have to verify their identities as authorities target mule SIMs and registrations that do not match the actual user.
Failure to comply with the mandate by the end of August results in immediate service limitations.
Trairat Viriyasirikul, acting NBTC secretary-general, said the move is part of stricter measures to combat technology-related crime.
Subscribers who receive notification messages via SMS or other official communication channels from their mobile operators are advised to follow the instructions provided to complete the information update, he said.
Customers with concerns or questions are encouraged to contact the customer service centre of their respective mobile network operator for assistance.
