Ahead of Independence Day, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday issued an advisory urging the public against flying kites near elevated metro lines to avoid entanglement of kite strings with Over Head Equipment (OHE) wires, which might prove fatal.
“Delhi Metro has around 25,000 Volts of live wires along its 416 km long elevated stretch as Over Head Equipment (OHE). These live wires run parallel to the tracks for powering the trains for daily passenger services. Kite strings getting entangled in these OHE wires can not only disrupt train services but also can be fatal for those flying kites with metallic manjhas,” said a DMRC official.
The advisory comes ahead of the Independence Day on August 15, when kite flying increases significantly in Delhi and the National Capital Region.
The official further added that DMRC has dedicated teams deployed near kite prone stations to swiftly remove the kite strings as and when spotted besides advising the train operators and station staff to be more cautious.Chinese manjha seizedDelhi Police recovered around 1,398 reels of banned Chinese kite string reels from a car in west Delhi, officials said on Wednesday.
