If you’re in northern or central Spain, or in parts of Portugal, Greenland and Iceland, you are the most likely to see a total eclipse.
But if you don’t have special eclipse glasses, then you could use a colander of course. But don’t look directly at the sun through it, use it to channel light onto a piece of card or paper…you should see something
It’s the first total eclipse in mainland Europe since 1999, the next total eclipse visible in the UK won’t be until 2090.
You may also want to stay up late tonight to witness the Perseid meteor shower which will reach its peak in the small of the morning. You should be able to see 50 to 100 meteors an hour if there are no clouds.
