The letter has been signed by the likes of Mark Rowley, the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and Maggie Blyth, who for years led the national policing response to violence against women and girls, and she’s now the Chief of Gloucestershire Constabulary.
The fundamental question that the police chiefs raise in the letter is how much confidence can victims and the bereaved and the public now have when it comes to sentencing serious offenders – And the answer to that has repercussions for the wider criminal justice system.
