Two youths were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly attempting to stab a police head constable with a dagger in Srikalahasti police limits on Tuesday.U. Ramanaiah (HC-789) was proceeding towards Srikalahasti railway station on his motorcycle on Tuesday evening after receiving an emergency Dial 112 call about a stolen laptop.On noticing disruption to traffic on the Tirupati-Srikalahasti highway caused by an accident involving two motorcycles, he stopped to clear the road and helped an injured woman into an autorickshaw.When Mr. Ramanaiah moved one of the motorcycles involved in the accident to the side of the road, Samdrala Jithendra Kumar (20) allegedly caught hold of him by his uniform collar. His accomplice, Achi Srinivasulu (22), allegedly took out a dagger from his pocket and attempted to stab the head constable.Mr. Ramanaiah escaped unhurt and lodged a complaint at the Srikalahasti One Town police station. A case was registered as Cr. No. 112/2026 under Sections 132, 109(1) and 351(2), read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu formed special teams headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police K. Narasimha Murthy to nab the accused. The teams apprehended Jithendra Kumar on Tuesday night and Srinivasulu on Wednesday morning. The dagger allegedly used in the attack was also seized from Srinivasulu.The police said Srinivasulu was a habitual offender and had cases pending against him at the Srikalahasti II Town police station.
