Imagine paying a six-figure monthly bill just to read what the President of the United States posts on social media a few milliseconds before everyone else. That’s not a hypothetical. It’s a product, it has customers, and now it has a lawsuit.

The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation have filed a legal challenge against Trump Media & Technology Group over its Truth API, a data-licensing service that charges institutional clients up to $100,000 per month for rapid access to posts from the platform’s most influential accounts. The biggest draw, of course, is President Trump’s account, which has roughly 12.9 million followers on Truth Social.

What the Truth API actually does

TMTG launched the Truth API on August 1, 2026, billing it as the company’s first foray into data licensing. The pitch is straightforward: pay a premium, get millisecond-level delivery of posts from top Truth Social accounts before the general public sees them through normal app refreshes.

The target customer base is institutional. Think Wall Street trading desks, hedge funds, and media organizations that would pay handsomely for even a fractional time advantage on market-moving presidential statements. TMTG reportedly signed agreements with more than ten customers ahead of the official launch, suggesting genuine demand for the product.
