Amid the ongoing drinking water supply crisis, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg conducted a surprise inspection of the Town Service Reservoir (TSR) and reviewed water storage levels, tanker filling points and the overall supply system, on Wednesday. He enquired about the number of tankers supplied free of cost so far and the areas to which they had been deployed.Mr. Garg directed officials to continue intensive field-level monitoring until the situation returns completely to normal. He specifically instructed that free water supply through GVMC tankers be continued for another week in water-stressed areas to ensure that residents do not face any inconvenience.During the inspection, Mr Garg thoroughly examined records relating to tanker requests received through the ‘Dial-A-Tanker’ service and the GVMC website, including completed deliveries and pending bookings. To personally verify the service delivery mechanism, the Commissioner spoke over the phone with a consumer named Ramu and expressed satisfaction. He directed officials to ensure the tanker distribution is carried out in a transparent manner.Mr. Garg said that the water supply situation in the city was gradually easing following the special action plan implemented by the corporation.He added that water levels in the Yeleru, Godavari, Thatipudi, Raiwada, Mehadri Gedda, Mudasarlova and Gambheeram reservoirs, as well as the Gosthani and Sarada river sources, were satisfactory. At present, these sources are supplying a total of 84.44 MGD (383.86 MLD) of water to GVMC.He further stated that upon completion of the desilting works related to the Raiwada water supply system, there is scope to augment the city’s water supply by approximately 3 MGD.The Commissioner said that the situation had improved significantly over the past few days due to coordinated measures.Superintending Engineer (Water Supply) Pallamraju, Executive Engineer Muralikrishna and other officials were present.
