Authorities in southern Greece have broken a suspected gang of scrap metal thieves that stole rolls of copper wire worth a total €10,000 from a construction site, officials said Wednesday.
A police statement said the three adult men and a 16-year-old youth were identified with the help of security camera footage from the site at the seaside town of Rio, near the city of Patra in the northwestern Peloponnese.
The theft took place last week.
Metal thieves frequently cause grid disruptions by stealing copper-rich components of power networks, including transformers and cables, that they sell for scrap.
