MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday said an investigation is being readied on the spread of recycled and artificial intelligence (AI) generated photos and videos of flooded areas in the wake of incessant rains triggered by the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
“We are coordinating with the Philippine National Police and the Department of Information and Communications Technolog and Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), for the investigation of this,” Torre said.
“There are old videos and outright manufactured, AI-generated photos that show floods with mounds of garbage, which is downright criminal and very malicious,” MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre said in English and Filipino.
His remarks came after the PNP warned the public against misinformation about the current weather situation and urged Filipinos to be cautious when coming across posts that claim to show the havoc wreaked by monsoon rains.
