Nalin Kumar Kateel, former MP, called upon the youth to actively participate in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s developmental initiatives and realise his vision to make India a developed nation by 2047.Addressing students who had assembled for a Tiranga Yatra organised by the Rashtrabhakta Vedike’s Mangaluru City South Assembly unit on Wednesday, Mr. Kateel said many young people had sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom. Among the few surviving freedom fighters is nonagenarian Mattar Vittal Kini, who was involved not only in the freedom struggle but also in the Goan independence movement. The youth should actively participate in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat initiatives, he said.Former State BJP spokesperson Vikas Puttur said Bhagat Singh was among the youth who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom. Bhagat Singh should be an ideal for today’s youth, who should remain committed to the country’s cause and its development, he said.Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath also spoke.Students from various schools and colleges took part in the Tiranga Yatra from Tagore Park to Govinda Pai Circle. Students sang Vande Mataram and the national anthem before commencing the yatra. A large number of police personnel were deployed for the event.To avoid any confrontation, the police removed some banners related to an SDPI programme placed around the park.
