The Commission is silent on how many have missed a long-passed deadline

More than a year after the deadline, several EU governments still lack the structures needed to protect citizens from potentially dangerous uses of AI.

The EU has forbidden uses of AI it considers too dangerous, such as manipulating people into harmful decisions or using AI to “social score” them based on their behaviour.

Despite a deadline last August, some countries, which are largely responsible for enforcing these bans, have still not done so.

Romania has drawn up a plan outlining which authorities should handle which tasks, but has yet to pass the law needed to implement it.
