Prime Minister Rumen Radev said Bulgaria is considering tougher measures to tackle youth crime following the killing of Georgi Kuzev in Plovdiv, while warning that children cannot be left to be raised by social media.
Opening the Cabinet meeting, Radev said the Interior Ministry had detained those responsible for the murder and that the court had ordered them held in custody. He said the government had already taken its first steps against youth crime but was considering “more radical” measures.
Radev stressed that responsibility for raising children lies primarily with families and schools. “It should be clear that Bulgaria’s children should be educated in the family and at school. We cannot leave them in the toxic environment of social media,” he said.
The prime minister called for society to unite around the victim and his relatives, as well as around the law and basic moral standards. He also criticized politicians and influencers whom he accused of trying to use the murder for political gain.
