A press trade group in France has asked the French competition authority to intervene after Google deployed its AI summaries of news items in the country in late July, arguing the feature is likely to deprive them of traffic.

The Alliance of General Information Press (APIG) asked the Competition Authority to bring Google into compliance with commitments made in 2022.

At the time, Google concluded agreements with 450 news publishers on rights related to copyright, giving them the right to remuneration when their content is used by tech companies, including in Google’s search engine.
