The Samoa Government has made the decision to reopen the Leulumoega District Hospital, following a visit by Prime Minister La'auli Leuatea Schmidt and members of his cabinet to assess the need for the hospital to be used again.
Health Minister Va‘aaaoa Salumalo Alofipo said the hospital had already been closed for a long time before the Government officially closed it, with all staff transferred to the hospital in Faleolo.
The Leulumoega District Hospital on Upolu Island was first constructed and established in 1982.
According to Alofipo, the World Bank inspection found that the location of the hospital was not safe and secure, because it was close to the sea.
The Samoa government later decided that the hospital should be inspected again after the Health Minister, who is also from the district, raised the matter after the people wanted the hospital to be reopened.
