Cristiano Ronaldo wrong-footed everyone and tied the knot behind closed doors, with no fans in the stands and no media watching, exactly one year after his marriage proposal.
The most eagerly awaited 'YESSS' of the year took place on Tuesday, 11 August, in Cascais, where the couple have a new home, at an intimate civil ceremony attended only by their five children, according to their press office.
Although no one was invited, everyone still received a keepsake at the end of the ceremony. The newlyweds treated the world to a photograph of their hands, showing their wedding rings. In the caption, a discreet "C" and "G".
The image, shared on both their Instagram accounts, surpassed four million likes in less than 40 minutes.
Everything that was written and speculated about Cristiano Ronaldo's wedding turned out, in itself, to be more interesting than the ceremony. Even the episode of the 'invasion' of Madeira Cathedral, on the island where the football star was born and which had long been tipped as the wedding venue, last Sunday, after rumours that Cristiano and Georgina would be married there, ended up being even more comical.
