The Opportunity Party could decide the next government, according to the latest 1News Verian poll.Opportunity received 8 percent of the vote in the poll, equal to NZ First.National received 29 percent of the vote. NZ First were on 8 percent and ACT was on 9 percent. That would translate to 36, 10 and 11 seats, respectively - 57 seats in total. The right bloc would need Opportunity's 9 seats to form a government.Labour received 30 percent in the poll, while the Greens were on 12 percent - enough for 38 and 15 seats. Te Pāti Māori was on 1 percent in the poll. Assuming the current Māori electorate incumbents retain their seats, the left bloc has enough support to get 59 seats between them, again relying on Opportunity to form a government.The Opportunity Party has surged in the latest 1News Verian poll, receiving the same amount of support as NZ First.RNZ / SuppliedThe poll was conducted from August 8 to 11, with a sample size of 847.Earlier on Wednesday, as Luxon faced another confidence vote in his leadership, 1 News released details of the preferred prime minister ratings from the poll, showing Luxon dropping again to sit on 17 percent - one percentage point from their last poll in June.The poll had National MP Erica Stanford on 2 percent, with Chris Bishop on 1 percent.New Zealand First leader Winston Peters dropped three to 7 percent, while ACT's David Seymour was up 1 to 5 percent.Luxon remains ahead of Labour leader Chris Hipkins, who also dropped one percentage point, to 15 percent.Luxon held an abrupt press conference on Wednesday afternoon, where he confirmed he had survived that confidence vote. He said he had the "full support" of the National Party caucus, and was focused on the election."Chris Penk launched a leadership challenge this week, which resulted in today's confidence vote. This makes his role untenable and as such I have removed his portfolios," Luxon said earlier on Wednesday.Paul Goldsmith is taking up the Defence, Veterans, Space, GCSB, and NZSIS portfolios.
