Former Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse and his wife are fighting the Ontario government’s refusal to reimburse them $697,500 in foreign-buyer tax they paid on their one-time $4.65 million Mississauga home.

The couple are arguing they legally qualified for a rebate of the Non-Resident Speculation Tax, a levy designed to discourage foreign speculation in Ontario’s housing market. According to their notice of appeal, they were denied because, they say, they were told by the Ministry of Finance that they failed to meet residency requirements.
