OTTAWA — Canadian and American negotiators hope to present U.S. President Donald Trump with a joint trade proposal in the days leading up to an Aug. 19 deadline to reach a deal to head off a new round of U.S. tariffs.
Two sources familiar with the talks, who spoke to the Star on the condition they not be named, said officials are striving to hand Trump a draft of the deal for him to review before Washington slaps 50 per cent tariffs on hundreds of Canadian goods next Wednesday.
