AfDB Office Complex: Imo Women Protest Over Lack of Open, Inclusive Consultations

The women of Mgbara Community of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State has taken to the streets in protest against what they described as lack of open, transparent and inclusive consultation with the community in the appropriation of land for the siting of African Development Bank (AfDB) office complex within their community. They alleged that a clique of individuals have hijacked the negotiation of acquisition of community land for the project
The women, in their hundreds stormed the streets of Mmahu-Egbema, the LG headquarters with placards, chanting songs that the project caanot proceed until the community is properly consulted and carried along
The immediate past Youth President of the community, Mr Modrich Ajunwa who addressed newsmen on behalf of the Women said the women have the backing of the entire community as the future, ancestral heritage and common interests of an entire community cannot legitimately be decided behind closed doors by two individuals or a small group of persons.
