The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kogi State Chapter, has raised the alarm over the worsening refuse menace, persistent scarcity of potable water and increasing influx of destitute and people in Lokoja and other parts of the state in the night

In a communiqué issued by the association at the end of its meeting in Lokoja, the state capital, expressed concern over the indiscriminate dumping of refuse and poor evacuation of waste by relevant authorities, warning that the situation posed serious health and environmental dangers.

NAWOJ said the growing heaps of refuse had contributed to reports ranking Kogi among the dirtiest states in the country, urging the state government and environmental agencies to urgently intensify waste collection and enforce sanitation laws.

It also called for sustained public enlightenment campaigns to discourage indiscriminate dumping and promote environmental cleanliness.

The women journalists equally described the persistent scarcity of potable water in Lokoja metropolis as a major crisis affecting the health, welfare and daily lives of residents, just as it urged the
