The UK is on course to have its warmest summer on record for mean temperature, with only average conditions needed for the remainder of August to surpass the record set only last year – according to the Met Office.

This is no surprise with consecutive heatwaves across Europe this summer. In southern and northeastern Spain hundreds have been evacuated today. In Huesca a wildfire has burned more than 4,000 hectares and in southern Spain 800 people have been forced to leave their homes with a wildfire spreading more than 25,000 hectares.

This comes as England and Wales are braced for another heatwave, with temperatures as high as 38C in places.
