Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, has challenged Governor Ademola Adeleke’s account of the financial situation inherited from the administration of Gboyega Oyetola, former governor, saying the immediate past government left about N15 billion for its successor.
Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, spoke at the Arise TV Town Hall Meeting in Osun State, where he fielded questions on his plans for the state and addressed key issues dominating the campaign ahead of this Saturday governorship election.
The APC candidate accused the Adeleke administration of promoting a misleading narrative about the state’s finances in a bid to create the impression that it inherited an empty treasury.
BusinessDay reports that the dispute dates back to December 2022, shortly after Adeleke assumed office. At the time, Adeleke said his administration inherited eight outstanding loan facilities from Oyetola, putting the state’s total loan stock at N331.32 billion.
He added N76 billion in salary and pension liabilities, bringing the total debt burden to N407.32 billion, excluding debts owed contractors. Adeleke also said the state treasury was effectively empty, with funds available only for that month’s salary.
