According to the command, the violations have resulted in "avoidable gridlock, disruption of traffic flow, road crashes, loss of lives and destruction of property."
The Enugu State Police Command has ordered the immediate enforcement of traffic laws across the state, directing officers to arrest and prosecute motorists who violate existing regulations.
The directive followed what the command described as rampant disregard for traffic rules, which it said had contributed to gridlock, disruption of traffic flow, road crashes, loss of lives and destruction of property across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, issued the directive in line with an order by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for nationwide enforcement of traffic laws to restore order on Nigerian roads and protect lives and property.
In a statement issued late Monday night by the command's spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the police said the enforcement would be carried out professionally and in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
