According to the military, the troops immediately pursued the fleeing attackers following the encounter and subsequently discovered one armed herder neutralized during the operation.

Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Police Force, have foiled an attack by suspected armed herders at Azege Village, Tombo Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The operation, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, Lieutenant and Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters of JTF Operation WHIRL STROKE, followed a distress call received by troops on August 10, 2026, reporting an attack on Azege Community.

The statement said the troops swiftly mobilised to the area after receiving the distress call in a bid to confront the attackers and restore security to the community.

“On arrival, the troops made contact with the armed criminals and engaged them in a gunfight. As a result, the assailants were overwhelmed by the troops' superior firepower and fled in disarray,” the statement said.
