The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has secured ISO 9001:2015 certification for its aeronautical meteorological services at the Yola, Osubi and Owerri airports, strengthening its quality assurance framework for weather information supplied to Nigeria’s aviation industry.
According to a statement signed by the agency on Tuesday, the certification followed a successful third-party audit of NiMet’s products and services at the three airports by Certech Inc. Canada, with the audit conducted between July 20 and 23, 2026.
According to NiMet, the agency’s services were found to conform with the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 quality management standard after a rigorous assessment of its processes, products and service delivery.
The latest certification follows a directive by Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, to Charles Anosike, Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and sustain improvements in Nigeria’s rating with the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
The agency explained that the certification is particularly significant for aviation because accurate and reliable meteorological information is critical to flight planning, take-off and landing decisions, route management and the broader safety of air operations.
