The Federal Government has approved the reviewed Scheme of Service for the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), a move aimed at strengthening the agency’s career structure, improving staff welfare and enhancing its capacity to deliver on its meteorological mandate.
The approval was conveyed to the Director-General of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, in a letter dated July 9, 2026, from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), signed on behalf of the Director of Organisation Design and Development.
The letter, titled “Re-Approval and Forwarding of the Reviewed Schemes of Service for the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet),” stated that the approval followed preliminary engagements and an extensive field study conducted in line with the approved Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for reviewing Schemes of Service.
According to the letter, the review was undertaken to align NiMet’s Scheme of Service with current developments in the Federal Public Service, address identified gaps in some professional cadres, strengthen career progression opportunities for staff and reflect the agency’s specialised mandate as Nigeria’s apex meteorological institution.
It stated that the approved Scheme of Service provides an appropriate career structure for the agency by incorporating Junior, Intermediate and Professional/Officer cadre categories in line with existing public service policies.
