The Andhra Pradesh Government has ordered the temporary (ad-interim) attachment of certain properties allegedly acquired with funds collected from AgriGold depositors, in a move aimed at preventing their sale or transfer and safeguarding the interests of thousands of depositors.The government issued G.O.Ms.No.146 on Tuesday, ordering the attachment of the properties pending further legal proceedings in the case.According to the order, AgriGold is alleged to have collected around ₹6,380 crore from nearly 32 lakh depositors by promising high returns or allotment of plots. However, the company allegedly failed to repay the amounts due to depositors or register the promised plots in several cases.The investigation into the company’s financial transactions reportedly found that funds collected from depositors were diverted to sister concerns and used to purchase properties in the names of the company’s directors and their relatives.The government has invoked the relevant legal provisions to temporarily attach the properties suspected to have been acquired with the depositors’ money. The attachment prohibits the sale, transfer, alienation or other dealings involving the properties without the permission of the competent authority.The measure is intended to preserve the assets so that they remain available for recovery and settlement of the claims of eligible depositors, subject to the outcome of the legal proceedings.The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has been designated as the competent authority to take possession of and exercise control over the attached properties. It has also been authorised to approach the court concerned for confirmation of the attachment and for making the interim attachment permanent in accordance with law.The latest action is part of the government’s continuing efforts to identify and secure assets allegedly linked to funds collected by Agri Gold, with the objective of protecting depositors’ interests and facilitating recovery of their money through the legal process.
