The Mangaluru South Police on Monday arrested the main accused in a chain-snatching case reported from Suterpet, after he escaped from custody when he was being brought to the police station along with two other accused.The police gave the name of the accused as Altaf Hussain, a resident of Bagalkot. Hussain, Ravi Bora and Siddique alias Mohammed Sahil, both from Uttar Pradesh, were arrested on June 26 in connection with the chain-snatching incident reported near the village accountant’s office, Suterpet, on June 14.While the accused were being brought to the police station, Hussain allegedly assaulted the police party and escaped. The police had recovered the stolen chain and the motorcycle used to commit the crime from the other two accused.A special team comprising police sub inspector P Maruthi and personnel Lakshmana Salotagi, Sagar and Anjaneya located Hussain in Vijayapura on Monday and apprehended him after a chase.The police said Hussain faces six cases in different parts of the State.ArrestedThe Surathkal Police on Monday arrested one person from Udupi district on the charge of house break-in and theft of ‘kanike hundi’ at the Kordabbu Daivasthana in Madhya. The incident was reported on August 5 and ₹15,000 in cash was stolen from the hundi.The police apprehended Sukesh Nai, 40, a resident of Kukkikatte, and upon inquiry, he admitted to committing the crime.
