Many people dream of owning property but are put off by soaring house prices and mortgage rates.

But a tiny village in Germany has gone on the market for €390,000 (£333,150) – less than the price of the average London flat.

For a fraction of the cost of buying an apartment in the capital, you could instead get your hands on a sprawling 24,000-square-metre site in Thuringia, complete with 15 buildings.

The unusual opportunity is listed on kleinanzeigen.de, a German selling platform, with the pitch: ‘Buy an entire village - a property with development potential’.

The 15 single-storey buildings each have 100 square metres of floor space and have been completely gutted, leaving a huge blank canvas for whoever buys the site.
