A US company told shareholders that it planned to establish an exploration well in Greenland in 2026
US oil operator Greenland Energy will not obtain the approvals needed to begin drilling in eastern Greenland this year, local authorities said, contradicting the company’s public timetable.
Last week, the US company told shareholders that it planned to establish an exploration well this year in the remote Jameson Land, a peninsula in eastern Greenland, and highlighted “constructive” dialogue with Greenlandic authorities.
Nuuk, however, says the project remains far from receiving approval.
“In the current situation, I do not believe it is realistic for the company to carry out drilling work this autumn,” Greenlandic Minister for Foreign Affairs and Natural Resources, Múte B. Egede, told local broadcaster KNR.
