Coinbase is bringing serious firepower to the UK market. The exchange announced on August 11, 2026, that it is gradually rolling out derivatives trading for professional investors in Britain, offering over 170 contracts spanning crypto assets, commodities, equities, and foreign exchange.

Leverage caps sit at 50x on perpetual contracts and 20x on dated futures. For context, 50x leverage means a 2% move against your position wipes out the entire trade. Professional investors are well aware of this, which is precisely why regulators keep these products away from retail clients.

What Coinbase is actually building

The derivatives launch is part of a broader internal initiative Coinbase calls the “Everything Exchange,” a strategy to consolidate multiple asset classes and instrument types onto a single regulated platform.

The 24/7 trading access applies to perpetual contracts, which mirrors how crypto native venues have always operated. Dated futures on the platform carry up to 20x leverage. Clients must complete an onboarding process to confirm they qualify as professional investors before accessing any of these products.
