El Niño conditions are now well established across the tropical Pacific, increasing the likelihood of below-normal rainfall, warmer temperatures and prolonged dry periods in Samoa.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said Tuesday that recent observations by the Samoa Meteorology Division showed rainfall had declined, with several parts of the country recording below-average rainfall over the past month.
The ministry’s outlook from August 2026 to January 2027 gives Samoa a 60 per cent to 70 per cent probability of below-normal rainfall.
