The Buffalo Bills‘ $2.2 billion Highmark Stadium was opened to fans for the first time on Saturday. It went viral for the wrong reasons.
Multiple fans seemed concerned about the sightlines from their new seats, with some posting images online of railings or other infrastructure partially blocking views of the field. A snapshot by an Associated Press reporter from another seat—that isn’t being used for Bills games—where the press box obstructs views of a large portion of the field garnered 3 million views, according to X.
A compilation of images, including that one, had another 6.5 million views as of Monday afternoon. The poster of those pics claimed the location of railings and stairs “affects every single section in the entire upper deck of the stadium for the first 5-10 rows.”
“Saturday’s practice was a great opportunity to test the new stadium,” a Bills spokesperson told Sportico. “We are currently addressing internal and external feedback regarding the facility’s operation following the first event. We’ll utilize the next six weeks to refine any details as we prepare for the home opener on Thursday, Sept. 17.”
As the images circulated online, other supporters chimed in with positive experiences from their first visit to the new venue. The team reportedly has heard from less than 1% of its personal seat license holders regarding sightline concerns.
