For most large-scale AI projects, power is the thing you negotiate for.
For Envision's new campus in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, power is the thing that was built first.
The company has just commissioned its Galaxy Campus, a 120,000 square-metre AI computing site developed by Envision Energy with its own dedicated energy supply rather than a connection to spare grid capacity.
That decision matters more than the numbers attached to the site's compute ambitions, though those are considerable: beyond 2GW of capacity eventually, up to one million AI accelerators, and a claimed one million PFLOPS of processing power once fully built out.
Envision says the design also achieves up to 10 times the compute output per square metre of a typical data centre, a figure it credits largely to how tightly the power system and the computing load are integrated.
