The spokesperson's office of the Law Enforcement Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FARAJA) announced the interrogation of primary suspects in the murder of state-backed eulogist (maddah) Hamidreza Rajabzadeh, stating that the suspects confessed during initial questioning.
According to ISNA, police confirmed on Monday, August 10, that following the arrest of the prime suspects, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Police are continuing inquiries into the motive and circumstances surrounding the killing.
The police statement noted that the female suspect in the case was arrested in a northern city while attempting to flee the country and was subsequently transferred to police headquarters.
A day prior, FARAJA spokesperson Saeid Montazerolmahdi announced that five individuals, four men and one woman, had been detained, including the person identified by police as the "primary individual involved" in the murder.
Media outlet Rokna previously claimed that an investigation into Rajabzadeh's social media activity led police to a young woman and several men. According to Rokna, Rajabzadeh had repeatedly confronted the woman over several months regarding her political views and hijab, agreeing to an in-person meeting on the day of his disappearance.
