The couple's 27-year-old son, Elijah Bieniemy, was arrested following the 26 July incident and charged with malicious wounding, firearm use in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. Elijah Bieniemy's court appearances have been delayed after he was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. While away from the Chiefs' pre-season training camp at Missouri Western State University, Eric Bieniemy stayed in regular contact with head coach Andy Reid and staff to assist with team preparations. Eric Bieniemy, who previously helped lead Kansas City to two Super Bowl victories during a prior coaching stint, rejoined the franchise ahead of their opening game against the Denver Broncos on 14 September.
