ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s wife, Mia, is out of the ICU and making progress after she was shot twice in the couple’s Virginia home on Sunday.Reid also said that Eric Bieniemy remained by Mia’s side Wednesday as she recovered.“She’s doing better,” Reid said, “and great from where she was.”Elijah Bieniemy — Eric and Mia’s son — was arrested Monday and charged after the shooting in which “one adult female (suffered) from multiple gunshot wounds” in Ashburn, Va., the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said in a release. Elijah, 27, was charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling.Andy Reid addresses Eric Bieniemy's family emergencyJesse NewellReid reiterated Wednesday there was no timeline for Bieniemy’s return to the team. The Chiefs had their first full-squad training camp practice at Missouri Western on Wednesday morning.“Right now, it’s important that he takes care of business. And everybody knows that,” Reid said. “So everybody’s game is picked up (among coaches), and they’re working hard. Eric will be back soon enough to jump in there and do his thing. But he’s got to take care of that first.”Reid said coaches remained in touch with Bieniemy to provide information on what was going on during practices.“He’s got the tape he can watch,” Reid said, “in whatever spare time he’s got there.”Eric Bieniemy’s other son, Eric III, has cerebral palsy, and Mia serves as his primary caregiver. It’s part of the reason that Reid said Bieniemy would take all the time he needed before returning to the Chiefs.“I just want to make sure (Mia) is taken care of, and Eric Jr., too,” Reid said. “And he’s got the other part of that that he’s got to sort out.”Eric Bieniemy returned to the Chiefs as offensive coordinator this season after a previous stint as OC with the team from 2018 to 2022. He was the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders in 2023; the couple’s home is roughly three miles from the Commanders’ practice facility.Joe Bleymaier, the Chiefs’ passing game coordinator, is serving as acting offensive coordinator while Bieniemy is away.
