A mass source reduction and campus cleaning campaign was launched in all Government, Government-aided and private schools in the district on Monday (August 10, 2026) as part of efforts to prevent mosquito breeding during the monsoon and check the spread of dengue, chikungunya and other vector-borne diseases.As part of the campaign, workers carried out fogging operations and cleaned the school premises. Schools were instructed to nominate a nodal teacher to coordinate mosquito source reduction activities and liaise with the Health Department.The entire school campus was inspected to identify and eliminate potential breeding sources. Discarded tyres, plastic containers, flowerpot plates and other articles that could hold stagnant water were removed. Overhead tanks, sumps, roof gutters and drains were cleaned to prevent water stagnation. Weeds, bushes and solid waste were also cleared.Awareness sessions were conducted during morning assemblies to educate students on dengue prevention, source reduction and the importance of observing a weekly dry day. Students were encouraged to keep their homes and surroundings free of mosquito breeding sources. Teachers and students were also given demonstrations on identifying Aedes larvae, pupae and adult mosquitoes and locating breeding sites.The NSS, NCC and Scouts were involved in health education and source reduction activities. The campaign highlighted common Aedes breeding sources such as water storage containers, flower vases, potted plants, roof gutters, discarded tyres, coconut shells and refrigerator trays.
