The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has once again announced sweeping changes to its leadership structure with Dr John Hlophe removed as party first deputy president, with immediate effect.
The removal of Dr John Hlophe as first deputy president of the MK Party has raised eyebrows, with experts warning that the decision could send a negative signal to professionals both within and outside the party.
This is the view of Professor Sipho Seepe, who noted that such changes could further destabilise the party as it approaches the local government elections in November, following widespread speculation regarding its perceived instability.
This most recent shake-up was announced on Tuesday. The party announced the removal of Nkosinathi Nhleko from his position as national chairperson and the elevation of Duduzane Zuma, the president's son, to first deputy president.
Alongside him, Lindiwe Mtshali has stepped into the role of second deputy president, replacing Nomsa Dlamini. Reverend Mxolisi Phakathi has also taken over as national chairperson, marking a significant overhaul in the party’s hierarchy. Additionally, a strategic presidential team has been dissolved, prompting speculation about the party's direction.
