A worker was killed and five others injured in a rockfall inside an underground tunnel at Egypt's Sukari gold mine.
Egypt's petroleum minister ordered authorities to form a committee to investigate the accident and review safety procedures at the site.
Sukari, Egypt's only large-scale modern gold mine, produced a record 500,000 ounces of gold worth $612 million in 2025.
AngloGold Ashanti, which acquired the mine in November 2024 for $2.5 billion, reported no fatalities at Sukari during its first full year of operation.
