Singappen Special Force chief K. Bhavaneeswari flagged off the Singappen marathon for creating awareness about cervical cancer and promoting the women safety helpline in the Marina Beach on Sunday. The marathon was held from Island Grounds to Light House. The marathon, organised by the Rotary Club of Madras Central, InnerWheel Clubs of District 323 and the Singappen Special Force (SSF), saw the participation of more than 3,000 people. Inaugurating the marathon, Ms. Bhavaneeswari emphasised the need for creating awareness among women for eradicating cervical cancer and also the need to strengthen women safety through the national women helpline no. 1091. Nallammai Ramanathan, chairman of the Singappen Marathon, citing that the country accounts for 25% of the global cervical cancer deaths, said there is an urgent need for creating awareness and action against cervical cancer.
