Tamil Nadu Science Forum on Sunday conducted a ‘Garbage Walk’ with the objective to spread awareness of cleanliness and the role of the people in keeping the city clean.The garbage walk was flagged off at Al-Ameen Higher Secondary School in K. Pudur and was taken out through Lourdhu Nagar and Alagar Nagar, and the participants returned to the school to complete the awareness rally.The event was presided over by TNSF former State president S. Dinakaran, Al-Ameen Higher Secondary School Headmaster S. Sheik Nabi and others.Mr. Dinakaran said the authorities should take necessary steps to keep the city clean. However, the onus is also on the people to keep their place clean. They have to properly dispose of the garbage at the dedicated places. People can be seen casually throwing garbage in the open. They have a duty to keep the city clean. Authorities alone cannot be blamed, he said.People were throwing waste from moving vehicles. They do not even have the patience to get down from the vehicle and throw the waste into the dumper bins, he said.Even at homes, people were not segregating biodegradable and nonbiodegradable waste. They were getting parcels from restaurants and the food packets can be seen strewn on the roadside. This attitude had to change, he said, adding that the people should take responsibility and reduce the burden on sanitary workers.TNSF District president Antony Paul, TNSF North secretary Shekar and others were present.
