A mass clean up drive was conducted at the MSS Wakf Board College campus in Madurai on Wednesday.The event was conducted to promote cleanliness and create awareness about proper waste management. Madurai Collector K. J. Praveen Kumar and Madurai North MLA A. Kallanai inaugurated the event.More than 200 participants, including government officials, Corporation staff, sanitary workers, students and volunteers took part in the event that highlighted the importance of public participation in keeping the city clean.The District Collector said cooperation of the public was important to achieve the objective of turning Madurai into a clean city. He urged the people to avoid dumping garbage in public places and instead use the designated bins and waste collection vehicles for waste disposal.Awareness programmes, installation of garbage bins, surveillance cameras and other measures would be taken up to prevent dumping of garbage in public places.
