TIB said the proposed ₦500,000 minimum wage reflected the erosion of workers’ purchasing power amid rising costs of food, transportation, housing, electricity, healthcare and other basic necessities.
The Take It Back Movement (TIB) has endorsed the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)’s demand for a ₦500,000 national minimum wage, describing it as a necessary response to the worsening economic conditions facing Nigerian workers.
The movement, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Sanyaolu Juwon, on Sunday, said it welcomed the NLC’s position and commended organised labour for recognising the urgency of the economic crisis confronting workers and other Nigerians.
TIB said the proposed ₦500,000 minimum wage reflected the erosion of workers’ purchasing power amid rising costs of food, transportation, housing, electricity, healthcare and other basic necessities.
“The demand for ₦500,000 is not detached from the reality of Nigeria today. It is a direct response to an economy in which the purchasing power of workers has been severely eroded by the rising cost of food, transportation, housing, electricity, healthcare and other basic necessities,” the group said.
