Federation of Retrieval of Tiruchi Palpannai-Thuvakudi Service Road on Sunday urged the State government to stop the land acquisition process initiated by the district administration for forming road with the reduced width.A resolution passed at the meeting of the federation here said it was unacceptable to reduce the width of the proposed road to 33 metres from 45 metres. The purpose of forming a service road would be defeated if the width was reduced to 33 metres. The Madras High Court in 2019 had stated that the width of the road could be 45 metres.Based on it, the officials concerned had collected and checked the documents of landholders in 2021 for the land acquisition. The district administration should acquire lands only based on the 2021 survey to form a service road with 45 metres width and stop the land acquisition proposal for forming a road with 33 metres width.S. Sakthivel, chief organiser of the federation, said it had been decided to send petitions on behalf of 50 resident welfare associations, demanding the land acquisition only for forming a 45 metres road. If action was not taken, 5,000 petitions would be sent separately to the Chief Minister, he added. Published - August 09, 2026 08:34 pm IST
