ILOILO CITY — Seventy two houses and structures were reported damaged while 568 persons from 144 families were affected after strong winds whipped parts of Iloilo City late Saturday night, uprooting trees, toppling utility posts and disrupting power.
In Situational Report No. 2 issued at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug.9, the Iloilo City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) said the weather disturbance struck at around 10:30 p.m., initially affecting Barangay Q. Abeto-Mirasol in Mandurriao and neighboring communities extending toward the Jaro district.
Initial reports described the disturbance as a possible tornado or “buhawi,” but city disaster officials stressed that the exact meteorological phenomenon has yet to be established.
