Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) officials on Saturday arrested Paramakudi Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) and his driver for demanding and taking bribe for removing alluvial soil from a water body.Officials said Paramakudi RDO Saravana Perumal demanded ₹50,000 from a brick kiln owner to grant permission to extract alluvial oil from a water body. The owner unwilling to pay the bribe informed DVAC officials and registered a complaint.Acting upon the complaint, the officials set a trap to nab the RDO. When the complainant handed over ₹50,000 in cash through the RDO’s driver Sundar, both of them were apprehended red-handed by the DVAC officials. In addition, unaccounted cash of over ₹5 lakh was also seized. Further investigation is under way. Published - August 08, 2026 08:30 pm IST
