Fear has gripped Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with residents and even politicians avoiding caps, T-shirts and other items bearing party colours or insignia amid a wave of politically motivated killings.

The rising violence has heightened fears among residents, many of whom now consider openly identifying with political parties a security risk.
The election is expected to be a three-way contest involving the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and the African Democratic Party candidate, Najeem Salaam.
Amid the tension, the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, announced on Friday that at least four police officers would be deployed in each polling unit across the state.
