Global investors are showing growing interest in Nigeria’s data infrastructure market as the country moves to strengthen local data management and digital capacity, the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, has said.

Adeyanju made this disclosure to Sunday PUNCH on the sidelines of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s new data localisation mandate, which requires banks and other regulated financial institutions to ensure that payment transaction data is stored and processed in Nigeria from January 2027.

The Galaxy Backbone chief executive said the policy direction, alongside rising demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence and digital services, was creating opportunities for investment in Nigeria’s data infrastructure ecosystem.

He said several global hyperscalers and technology infrastructure companies had expressed interest in Nigeria, although he did not disclose the names of the firms.
